Community Support


Over the past 50 years, The Blue Bird Auxiliary has been a major benefactor to Methodist Hospital at the Medical Center.  Members have contributed millions of hours and dollars to assist our patients and their families. In recent years, the Blue Birds have extended financial support  to community non-profits.  Blue Bird gifts help support research, education and services that directly benefit medically challenged children and adults in San Antonio.

In 2013, the following community grants were awarded:

  • $5,000 - Any Baby Can – provides a safety net for families with critically or chronically ill children.
  • $1,000 - Low Vision Resource Center - supports radio programs for the visually impaired in Bexar County.
  • $2,000 - Make A Wish Foundation of Central Texas - grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
  • $7,500 - Kinetic Kids – sports and recreational programs for special  needs kids.
  • $5,000 - Providence Place – sanctuary, guidance and training programs for individuals facing a variety of challenging circumstances.
  • $5,000 - South Central TX Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - research to find a cure for diabetes.
  • $10,000 - Spina Bifida Texas – support for children and families affected by Spina Bifada in Central and South Texas.
  • $5,000 - Transplant Association of Texas – assistance to young organ and tissue transplant recipients and their families.

Support to the Methodist Healthcare System:          

  • $ 4,000 - Perinatal Bereavement Committee
  • $ 1,500 – Rehabilitation Services for iPads
  • $10,000 - Methodist Hospital Antepartum and Women's Specialty Unit Depression Prevention and Support.
  • $5,000 - Texas Transplant Reunion Sponsorship

The deadline for 2014 grant proposals is Monday, March 17, 2014 Grants are awarded annually on June 1st. Please download the following documents:
